News from LFTW...

CUTBACKS

Over the past eighteen months funding for courses has reduced dramatically and in some cases individuals and churches are finding it more difficult to pay for training.

As a consequence LFTW has had to cut back in a number of areas, including staff hours and development.  As enquiries for training and support for projects continues to grow, LFTW is meeting its training obligations by utilising Associate Trainers. These are former students who are also practioners working in or generally leading projects.

The objective is to ensure that the training received by the Christian community is not only relevant to their needs but is professional and of a high quality that helps bring freedom to others.

Freedom Cambodia advances, BUT resources are thin

Freedom Cambodia (FC) which is carrying on the work of CRAC is rapidly becoming recognised as a major resource for information, training and support for Cambodia Christians and others working with addictions.

Now a strategic Partnership has been put in place with Malaysian Care based in Kuala Lumpur following the first Asian ISAAC Conference held in that city last March.  The conference was addressed by a number of Asian leaders who are working with the poor especially those who have addictions.  Evening sessions for worship, encouragement and ministry were led by Jackie Pullinger.

FC is now seeking funding to develop a ‘Walk In’ centre for young solvent abusers and drug addicts many of whom are on the street and can easily fall prey to people traffickers.

Partnership Training Scheme advances

'Restore’ is a ministry of St Thomas Philadelphia Campus in Sheffield. LFTW has run a number of addiction awareness days and a certificate training course at the church.  Now they have joined the Partnership Training Scheme (PTS) to further equip their growing volunteer team.

Restore's vision is to take the power of God's love to the very edges of society and bring people into the heart of God's family. This means reaching out to the poor and marginalised in Sheffield including the homeless, people with addictions, women working on the streets and people in prison. They are committed to a holistic approach meeting practical, spiritual and emotional needs.

Excellent Awareness Day in Southampton, January 2010

Running the first Awareness Day of the year was a real pleasure at Victory Gospel Church, Southampton.  Over 40 delegates attended and thoroughly immersed themselves in the issues of addiction and how churches can be better prepared to reach out to their community.

Don’t take our word for it, read some of the comments yourself.......

“My eyes have been opened.  I didn’t think I needed this course  but now I think everybody needs it.”

“Really good mix of spiritual and practical”

“It was extremely interesting, relevant and well presented.”
